Today is my husband’s birthday. There is something magical about starting a week with a celebration. It is a beautiful reminder that Monday’s can be a day to look forward to, not to just dread. Life is short, celebrate each day, even the Monday’s. Here is hoping your Monday and your week is magical and you find those small moments worth celebrating
This weekend we were at the Farm Where You Live event. It was an amazing weekend of connecting with other homesteaders and learning from those passionate about the skills and knowledge they have acquired. Guest speaker Joel Salatin spoke on the 7 fears we encounter when homesteading. Honestly, it applies to pursuing any dream. Fear of not succeeding, of not knowing enough to start, making mistakes, losing money, are all boat anchors holding us back. Just start. Do one small step in the direction you want. If you want to garden, plant one plant. Cook from scratch, pick one recipe and master it. Learn to raise animals? Volunteer or intern at a farm. Your dream is waiting for you, all you need to do is step your fears and be relentless in pursuit of the life you are meant to live.
Whether you are a homesteader or starting any new direction in life, there will be people that will not understand.
Why make yogurt when you can buy it? Why grow vegetables and deal with bugs when you can go to a farm stand? Why have so many animals?
Pursuing success looks different for all of us. What brings your heart joy and your soul peace is what brings you into your true self and creates a beautiful, abundant life.
To me, that is success.
It is okay if people in our lives don’t understand. We may not understand the path they are on either. By showing grace and compassion to one another and to ourselves, our definition of success becomes limitless.
Keep following your dreams, no matter how big or small. Reach out to others pursuing similar goals for support and knowledge. Make all the mistakes to keep learning and growing.
Each sucess begins with us believing in ourselves and making the most of each opportunity that comes our way. Use this affirmation for any area of your life you want to work on: career, relationships, health.
Building a homestead from the bottom up it is easy to get overwhelmed but by taking each day and embracing the lessons that life presents in that moment, that is where the growth happens.
I was recently asked if I thought I bit off more than I can chew with this project. 2 acres, 2 homes to completely renovate, a garden to start, learning to raise chickens and other animals, being away from friends and family. It does sound like alot in that context, but I have a clear vision of what I want. The most clear I have ever had. In the past, it was to be the best I could be in the moment. Wife, mom, friend. Now, I clearly see a life that will being me joy, my spouse, my kids and my grandkids. I have a spouse that shares that vision. We are building a legacy. Something I never imagined when I was younger. To become more than you thought possible before, you have to think it into existence. You have to believe it. Pick thoughts that grow your dreams.
In life, as we work towards our goals, it is hard to stay in the moment and appreciate all the abundance we already have. When we are focused on where we are going, it is easy to miss the little joys we have in our everyday life. This week, take time each day for gratitude for where you are and who you are. The journey towards your goal is yours to be proud of and to enjoy.
This morning I am sitting bundled up in a house cold enough to see my breath, by a wood burning stove my husband is using muffler tape to hold together and am listening to the team prepare our driveway to pour the concrete for our new garage. I am writing in my gratitude journal and my husband come in to tell me that our water main has been hit. I look out the window to see water bubbling up through ground.
Another aspect of this house incorrectly done. It is barely below ground and a plastic pipe is all that is bringing water into our home. Without this find, it would have been below our new slab and new garage and when it burst…which is inevitable with it not being copper piping and would have been leaking under the work we are having done.
So now we have trenching and digging and copper piping to buy to make it correct. I have no water to the house, so that will make today interesting but I still sit in gratitude.
I am still warm and safe even though there is chaos around me. I have clean, bottled water to drink. Fortunately, my husband made coffee this morning start my day with as I set my intentions for the week. There is always a silver lining, a new perspective to see, an opportunity to grow.
So it looks like this week, I will be learning plumbing and getting a workout digging. Good thing I have dry shampoo until I can wash my hair again.
Happy Monday!!I hope your cup is filled with motivation and excitement for the week. No matter your goal, find the joy in the journey. That is where the growth happens. By celebrating the small things in life. No one else can do things quite like you. From making the bed or doing the dishes, to how you take care of your health, to how you love your family and friends, to how you impact the world at large, that is all uniquely you. Love the process and be proud of every small step, it will lead you to a place where the outside world will not dim your shine.
Today in my 90 Day Challenge group, we focused on the importance of gratitude. For me, gratitude has been the biggest factor in helping me live a life of joy and happiness.
But how, you may wonder will gratitude help you lose weight or workout more.
I believe that everything is mindset.
When you are white knuckling your way through “I have to lose weight” “I have to exercise”, I don’t believe you are setting yourself up for long term success. You may reach your goal, but without gratitude, without joy, what will keep you wanting to maintain that goal?
Gratitude is also the easiest practice that you can start and maintain. All you have to do is be grateful in that moment. No matter what the circumstance or what is happening, there is something to be grateful for. A lesson learned. Your life experience has made you who are in this moment which is an amazing person. Wanting grow and change is also amazing!
So how do you start. When you open your eyes in the morning, “I am grateful for this day.” When you make your bed “I am grateful for a comfortable, warm, safe place to sleep.” If your kitchen that was clean when you went to bed now has dirty dishes “I am grateful for dishes to wash and clean water to use to wash them”. For each time during the day a negative thought or frustration comes, we can reset by just looking at it through gratitude.
So when we don’t want to do the hard workout, you can look back to your morning for inspiration. “I made my bed, I drank my water, I had a healthy breakfast, now I GET to move my body. I get to be strong and healthy for the people I love in my life , I get to be strong and healthy for me.”
Being grateful for having clean food choices to make, for water to drink, to be able to workout, to have a home to clean, to have a bed to sleep in, takes us from feeling like we are living a life of lack but to a place of abundance. And I do believe when we attract abundance in one area of our life, it spills into all the other areas of our life.
I am grateful for each and everyone of you reading this. I hope your day is filled with gratitude and abundance.
